Guides.Every part of DotMD, step by step.
Connect your AI agent, review what it writes, and read and edit Markdown on your Mac. Each guide has the steps, the exact commands and the answers to the questions people ask.
macOS 14 or later. Reading is free; editing and reviews are one payment.
Quick answer
Start with your agent's guide: Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. Each one connects the agent to DotMD with one line and shows the review loop. The other guides cover comments, checking fixes, the MCP server, reading and editing.
Connect your agent
One address, http://127.0.0.1:8089/mcp, and a setting or two that differ from agent to agent.
Claude Code
One command connects it. Claude Code sends you its plans and specs, waits while you comment and fixes each comment.
Codex
Add DotMD in the Codex app or in config.toml, with a tool timeout long enough to wait for your review.
Cursor
The same address works in Cursor, Visual Studio Code and any other MCP client.
MCP server
Turn the server on, see what an agent can do and every call it makes, and why it stays on your Mac.
CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md
Read and edit your agent's instruction files, and add DotMD's review rules to them in one click.
Claude Code plan mode
Where Claude Code saves its plans, and how to read them, comment on them and send them back.
Codex plan mode
Ask Codex to write its /plan to a file, then review it line by line.
Cursor plan mode
Save Cursor's plan to the workspace, then read it, comment and check the agent's fixes.
Spec-driven development
Spec, plan, tasks, build: where your review fits in the loop with Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
GitHub Spec Kit
Review the spec.md, plan.md and tasks.md that Spec Kit has your agent write.
Review, read and edit
With an agent or on your own: comments, an agent's fixes, and Markdown on your Mac.
Comments
Select a passage and press ⌥⌘M. Comments stay tied to their lines and never touch the file.
Reviewing changes
See each fix in the file, old text in red and new in green. Accept it, reopen it, or restore any version.
Reading Markdown
Open any .md file or folder and read it rendered, with tables, code, Mermaid diagrams and math. Free.
The editor
Edit with the rendered page beside the text. Every change goes straight to the file, and every version is kept.
Mermaid diagrams
Open a .md file and see its Mermaid diagrams drawn offline, with zoom. Write them with a live preview.
Quick Look
Press Space on a .md file in Finder to see it rendered. Free.
Markdown to PDF
Export a Markdown file to PDF with diagrams and formulas drawn, or copy it as rich text.
Markdown diff
See what changed in a file as rendered text, added in green and removed in red, and undo single changes.
Math formulas
Write LaTeX in Markdown and see it drawn with KaTeX, offline. Includes a cheat sheet.
Markdown cheat sheet
Every Markdown element on one page, with what you type and what you get.
Questions before you start
Which agents work with DotMD?
Any MCP client: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and others. One URL, http://127.0.0.1:8089/mcp, in the agent's MCP settings. DotMD's guide has the exact line for each.
Does the agent need DotMD to be open?
Yes — DotMD runs the MCP server while it's open. Settings → MCP → Start with DotMD keeps it ready.
Is reviewing free?
Reading is free. Comments, reviews and agents over MCP are part of DotMD Reviewer, $39.99 once (Editor owners upgrade for $24.99). See Pricing.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts. Your files, comments and history stay on your Mac. The purchase is tied to an anonymous ID that syncs through your iCloud, so it works on all your Macs.
