Terms of Use

Effective: October 28, 2026

DotMD is a Mac app for reading, editing and reviewing Markdown. These terms are the licence to use it and the terms for buying DotMD Editor and DotMD Reviewer. They are written to be read: about seven minutes.

1. Who we are, and how to reach us

DotMD is made and published by Oleksandr Storozhenko ("we", "us"), a sole developer. Questions about these terms, purchases or refunds: support@getdotmd.com. We answer support email ourselves; we don't promise a response time, but we aim for two business days.

2. Who can use DotMD

You must be able to enter a contract where you live (usually 18 or older, or with a parent's or guardian's consent). You may use DotMD for personal or business purposes alike. If you use it for an organisation, you confirm that you may accept these terms on its behalf.

3. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use DotMD on Macs you own or control. You may not sell, rent, lend or sublicense DotMD, remove or alter its notices, work around its licensing, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows this regardless of these terms. DotMD, its design and its code remain our property; the licence is yours for as long as you follow these terms.

4. Your files and your content

Your Markdown files, comments, versions and everything you write in DotMD are yours. We claim no rights to them and never receive them. If you send us feedback or ideas, you let us use them to improve DotMD without owing you anything.

5. Free, Editor and Reviewer

Reading Markdown in DotMD is free. DotMD Editor unlocks editing, search across files, export, printing and the version history list with restore. DotMD Reviewer includes everything in Editor and adds comments and reviews with agents, agents over MCP, highlighted history, single reverts and AI actions. We improve DotMD over time, so the exact set of features in each may change with updates; we don't remove a feature you paid for without an equivalent.

The version downloaded from getdotmd.com includes a free 3-day trial of all features, once per Mac, with no payment needed. When the trial ends, DotMD returns to the free reading mode unless you buy Editor or Reviewer. The Mac App Store version has no trial for now.

6. Buying DotMD Editor and Reviewer

DotMD Editor and DotMD Reviewer are sold two ways, at prices shown in your currency before you buy. Prices may change; a change never affects a purchase you already made.

Both are paid once, with no subscription and no renewal. A purchase is a licence for the life of the product, not a promise that the product is maintained forever. Editor and Reviewer are separate purchases; if you own Editor, you can buy the upgrade to Reviewer and pay the difference. The upgrade is sold only to Editor owners.

7. One purchase, all your Macs

Your purchase is tied to an anonymous purchase ID that DotMD keeps in your iCloud account. Your purchase therefore works on every Mac signed into the same iCloud account, whether DotMD came from the App Store or from getdotmd.com. Without iCloud, use Restore Purchases (App Store) or the order number from Paddle's receipt (getdotmd.com). The licence is for you and the people in your household; please don't share the purchase ID or receipt beyond that. We may end access that is shared more widely.

8. Refunds and the right of withdrawal

9. AI actions and agents

AI actions run on your Mac with Apple Intelligence, or with an API key you provide for a provider you choose (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek or xAI). With a provider, the text you send goes directly from your Mac to it under its terms; you are responsible for the key, for what you send and for the provider's charges. AI output can be wrong; check it before you rely on it.

DotMD's MCP server lets agents running on your Mac read and change the files you open in DotMD. You choose which agents to connect and are responsible for what they do with your files. Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Visual Studio Code and other product names are trademarks of their owners; DotMD is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.

10. Updates and open source

DotMD from getdotmd.com checks for updates itself and installs them when you agree; App Store copies update through the App Store. Updates may change features and drop support for old versions of macOS. DotMD is built with open-source components, among them Sparkle, the RevenueCat SDK, KaTeX and Mermaid, used under their licences.

11. No warranty, limited liability

DotMD is provided "as is". We work hard to make it reliable, but we don't promise it is free of errors, available without interruption or fit for a particular purpose. Keep backups of your files: DotMD's version history is a convenience, not a backup. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for anything arising from DotMD is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

12. If you got DotMD from the Mac App Store

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for DotMD or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If DotMD fails to conform to a warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price to you; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation for DotMD. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to DotMD, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection claims, and claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property. You confirm that you are not located in a country under a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

13. Ending the licence

The licence ends if you break these terms; a purchase that was used to break them isn't refunded. You can end it any time by deleting DotMD. Sections 4, 8, 11, 12 and 14 survive.

14. The legal part
