Your agents write the docs. You review them in one place.

DotMD is a Markdown viewer and editor for Mac with review built in. Reading is free. Comment on the exact passage, Claude Code or Codex fixes it, and every change shows up in the file for you to accept — like a pull request, for documents.

macOS 14 or later. Reading is free; DotMD Pro has a 3-day free trial.

The paywall loads offerings, starts the purchase and waits for the store. The client never trusts a local flag.

Chat is where docs get written.DotMD is where they get right.

An agent writes a spec in a minute. Reading it carefully is still your job — and the chat is a poor place for it. DotMD gives the document a review loop.

How reviewing works

1
Waiting for review
Claude Code sent  paywall.md

The agent sends it to you

It calls request_review and waits. The file lands under Needs You; nothing jumps in front of what you're doing.

2

The paywall shows the plans side by side, with the yearly price per month.

YYou
Show the monthly price too.
Send

You comment on the passage

Select the text, press ⌥⌘M, say what should change. The comment stays tied to that passage, with its lines.

The agent fixes, you accept

Old text struck out in red, new in green, right where the comment was. Keep a fix with one click, or send it back for another round.

Rollout plan

Ship to 5% of users first. If error rates stay flat for a day, go to 50%, then everyone.

YYou Open · line 14
A day is too short. Make it three.

Comment on the exact passage

Not "the third paragraph, roughly". The agent sees your comment with the passage and its line numbers, edits the file, and reports back on each one.

Every fix, right in the file

Changes are shown on the page next to the comment they answer. Accept, reopen, or Accept All. Changes nobody asked for are listed separately, so nothing slips in.

Nothing waits unnoticed

Needs You at the top of the sidebar lists every file where an agent waits for you or fixes wait to be checked. The Dock icon counts them. A banner on the file says what's waiting.

Codex · writes the spec ↓ request_review Claude Code · reviews it, leaves 6 comments ↓ you moderate, Send Codex · fixes all six ↓ you check the fixes You · Approve

One agent reviews another

Let a second agent do the first read: it comments like a reviewer would, you keep the comments that matter, and the author fixes them. You check the result, not the whole draft.

DotMD is an MCP server

Turn it on in Settings → MCP. Any agent on your Mac, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, can open the files you work on, show you a plan or spec it wrote, read your comments and send a draft for review.

Set up the MCP server

Claude Code Codex Cursor Visual Studio Code + any MCP client
Claude Code requested a review of paywall.mdnow
Codex opened plan.md2 min
Claude Code read 3 comments on rollout.md9 min
Cursor fixed 2 comments on api.md1 h

You see what they do

Recent Requests lists every call in plain words: who opened what, who read which comments. The server listens on localhost only; nothing leaves your Mac.

And a very good Markdown appwhen nobody is reviewing anything.

A folder of .md files on the left, the rendered page in the middle, your edits saved to the file as you type.

Questions,answered.

Why not just review in the chat?

In a chat you quote a paragraph, the agent rewrites half the file, and you can't tell what changed. In DotMD a comment is tied to the passage, the fix shows as a diff next to it, and every version of the file is kept. It's a code review, for a document.

Is DotMD a Markdown viewer or an editor?

Both. Reading is free: open any .md file or folder and read it rendered, with tables, code, Mermaid diagrams and formulas. DotMD Pro adds the editor with a live preview, comments and reviews, agents over MCP, version history, search and export.

Which agents work with DotMD?

Any MCP client: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and others. One URL, http://127.0.0.1:8089/mcp, in the agent's MCP settings. DotMD's guide has the exact line for each.

Does DotMD work with Claude Code?

Yes. One command connects it: claude mcp add --transport http dotmd http://127.0.0.1:8089/mcp. Claude Code can then send you its plans and specs for review, read your comments and fix them.

Can I review a Claude Code plan or spec in DotMD?

Yes, when the agent writes it as a Markdown file: open it in DotMD, comment on the passages, and the agent reads your comments and fixes them. Or let the agent send it to you with one call and wait for your Send or Approve.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts. Your files, comments and history stay on your Mac. The purchase is tied to an anonymous ID that syncs through your iCloud, so it works on all your Macs.

Does the agent need DotMD to be open?

Yes — DotMD runs the MCP server while it's open. Settings → MCP → Start with DotMD keeps it ready.

Where do the AI actions run?

On your Mac with Apple Intelligence, or with your own API key for the provider you choose. The text goes straight from your Mac to that provider. DotMD has no server in between.

App Store or direct download?

Same app, same price, same Pro. The direct version updates itself; the App Store version updates through the App Store. A purchase from either works in both.

Can I get a refund?

App Store purchases: through Apple. Direct purchases: write to support within 14 days and you get a refund through Paddle, no questions asked. The yearly plan starts with a free trial, so you can try everything first.
